Career Sailing School Instructor Opportunities

Are you thinking about a sailing career? Would you like the gratification of turning sailing novices into adept sailors – ready to take the helm with confidence? Offshore Sailing School is always growing and often has openings at its Florida and British Virgin Islands branches for qualified women and men who can teach courses from Basic Keelboat to Offshore Passage Making. In addition, from time to time, branch management opportunities become available for sailors with expert sailing instruction, organizational and maintenance credentials.

Evaluation of Your Ability to Become a Sailing School Instructor for Offshore Sailing School

If you love to sail and have the talent and knowledge to become a sailing instructor, or a manager – the best way to determine if working for Offshore Sailing School is the right fit for you, is to have a conversation with our Chief Operations Manager, Bryce Jackson. Even if you have years of sailing, racing and cruising experience, you cannot imagine the intensity and nuances of teaching novices to be successful sailors until you, too, are trained in experiencing the same sailboat and powerboat education provided by Offshore Sailing School.

Learn the “Right” Way to Teach Sailing

America’s #1 Sailing School is owned and operated by National Sailing Hall of Fame Honoree, Steve Colgate, and National Women’s Sailing Association founder, Doris Colgate. Their team of US Sailing Certified Instructors, led by Chief Operations Manager, Bryce Jackson, are ready to help you become a sailing instructor. To be a qualified instructor, your sailing resume must fit the initial requirements – which include strong sailing, cruising and (preferably) racing experience as skipper and crew, coaching or teaching experience (in the non-sailing world qualifies too), personality qualities that include patience and humility, and a Coast Guard License or the sailing parameters required to obtain one.

The US Sailing Instructor Evaluation Certification Program

Once you are hired, if you do not already have US Sailing Instructor certifications, you will be placed on a fast track to enter the 3-day comprehensive US Sailing Basic Keelboat Instructor Certification Evaluation when scheduled. Passing this evaluation must be accomplished within a year of your initial employment date and is a pre-requisite to remain a sailing instructor for Offshore Sailing School and most of the top sailing schools in the country.

Offshore Sailing School’s Commitment to You and Your Commitment to Offshore Sailing School

If you are hired and commit to an 18-month period as a full-time instructor for Offshore Sailing School, the fee for the US Sailing Basic Keelboat Instructor Certification Evaluation (starts at $410 per person per evaluation level) will be reimbursed by Offshore Sailing School when you fully pass an evaluation. In addition, travel costs to relocate will be reimbursed up to $1,000.
